The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of menstrual health education and to break the persistent social taboos associated with menstruation. It sought to create a supportive and inclusive environment where students could openly discuss menstrual health and well-being. The initiative also emphasized the need to promote dignity, accessibility to menstrual hygiene products, and awareness of safe practices.

During the session, discussions were held on common myths and facts related to menstruation, helping participants understand the biological and health aspects of the menstrual cycle. Information was also provided on different menstrual products and hygienic practices, enabling students to make informed choices about menstrual care. The interactive format of the programme encouraged participants to ask questions and share their experiences, thereby fostering a comfortable space for dialogue and awareness.

The workshop witnessed active participation from students, who engaged enthusiastically in the discussions and activities. The event successfully contributed to spreading awareness about menstrual hygiene and reinforcing the importance of health, dignity and inclusion in matters related to menstruation.

The programme served as a meaningful step towards promoting menstrual health awareness and breaking societal stigmas, aligning with the university’s commitment to community engagement and student wellbeing.

3. Outreach Programme on Menstrual Health and Hygiene

A Social Responsibility activity was organised by the School of Media and Communication at Mochpol and Barbaria villages of Barasat, North 24 Parganas. This event focused on spreading awareness among the villagers through initiatives of Development Communication. This activity opened door for students as well as Faculty Members to directly spread awareness in the community. This has further helped the students to apply their theoretical and practical knowledge to mitigate the challenges faced by the rural community.

With the help of hand drawn poster, the students spread awareness on the importance of menstrual hygiene, disposal of used napkins and why it is important for both boys and girls to have “period education”. This awareness drive was conducted in the schools and at household levels.
